Black and White photos seem to cleans the moments they capture and while giving us a peek into a life lived they tend to distance the past from us by virtue of their lack of color.
1939-1945 America in color.
-Where are the fat people?
-Shoes? We don't need no stinking shoes!
-These photos impart the feeling that something has been lost in America. Individual responsibility and the robustness that results?
1910-1915 Russia in color.
-All these people are dead; the younger ones perhaps victims of the purges.
